2024 Off to a Good Start!

The first six months of the year have flown by, and I've been busy with many creative projects:  The 100 day project, new tapestry weavings, basketry, and some travels. But today I will start with some of my best news!

In April and May I was awarded with two different art awards!  I submitted my piece titled "SEND HELP" to the Are You Really Winning public art competition for problem gambling awareness. And I received 2nd place!  See more about that HERE.  And see all of the award winners in this VIDEO

I also received the 3rd Place award in the Oak Park Art League's Inner Orbits : Abstract Exhibition this Spring.  My piece "Peek a Boo" a framed triptych was created with random textural stitches on wool fabric. This work was inspired by my participation again this year in the 100 Day Project on Instagram.

I limited myself at the start of the 100 Day Project by working within a 5"x 5" size for the textile art pieces that I worked on as a daily art practice. I explored crochet, weaving, basketry techniques, hardanger embroidery and with this work I played with random stitching and texture. Here are some of the pieces I did during the 100 Day Project from February to June 2024:

January through June 2024 has been a mixture of creative inspiration and questioning of what life has to offer a 60 something artist with no permanent studio space. A shift in living arrangements have left me with limits on when, where and what I am able to work on. I know it is just a phase, as they say. But there are days that I put my hands up in surrender and say "I give up" or "SEND HELP"! And then there are days when I look back at pleasant accomplishments like these recognition awards of the work I am doing and I say "keep going Pam, you'll get there". Even when I don't know where "there" is.

Thanks for witnessing my path as I try to get there...~Pam.
