Day 11: Leave, Weave, Discard or Donate
Day 11 of LEAVE, WEAVE, DISCARD or DONATE my at home artist’s residency:
○ Friday was a “leave” day. As in I left to observe the weft of Currents 38: Christy Matson.
I went on a “field trip” with a friend to the Milwaukee Art Museum
- Christy Matson: “Full Moon Forest” was my favorite piece in the exhibit
- There was a wonderful video showing Christy Matson at work on her Jacquard loom.
- “Ouroboros” by Christy Matson
- Detail of work by Christy Matson
- Christy Matson at Milwaukee Art Museum
- The painted warp in this piece made me think of a very abstracted ikat weave.
○ It was a perfect activity for an all day off & on rainy day. I wouldn’t have been able to weave outdoors anyway.
○ I took my circle weaving off the loom for Fiona to inspect. She thinks it’s ready to send to @reclaimthevoid.
○ My Creativity Oracle Card today was #11 – Overwhelm. “This card is an indication that our efforts to actualize our creativity must be balanced with rest… The plan you have conceived might be too much, too soon or both.” This was an appropriate card to draw for a day away from the studio/weaving. I’m still trying to “imaginate” how to proceed on the large loom weaving.
Letting it sit idle, yet fertile with possibility seems like just what it needs, as I rest my body from the yard work and basement cleaning I’ve been pushing through the last two weeks. I plan to take the weekend a bit “easy” too…
