Happy Independence Day Weekend!
I love a holiday. Especially a holiday that does not require that I buy any gifts, drive long distances or set up a lot of decorations that must be taken down in a few weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I love doing those things…sometimes. But 4th of July is a fun, relaxing holiday weekend that requires just a little bit of effort, with great reward.
Have you ever wondered what I do when I’m not sewing, knitting, crocheting, dyeing or felting? (I know, it has probably never crossed your mind!) I skate with DERBY LITE! Yes, I become total Pamdemonium and don my helmet, pads and wheels and I spin…(not yarn) but round and round at the rink! This past week I had the fun of skating in two parades with my Derby Lite Ladies in Skating! Last Sunday we hit the PRIDE PARADE in Chicago and yesterday skated the Oak Park’s 4th of July Parade.
Wednesday in preparation for the parade here in Oak Park I finally got my new skating (shiney hiney) shorts sewn. I’d bought the silver and blue star fabric a couple of years ago, and never got the project done. But, I’m trying to fit in some projects for myself now. So, this seemed like a quick fun one to finish (plus I had a deadline which always helps). I used an old pair of shorts as my pattern but eliminated the side seams. Two short seams on the serger and it was put together. The tricky part was the threading of my Bernina 1300MDC for the coverstitch (that hem with two parallel top-stitch lines) Once I got the machine re-threaded I was done! And for the record, I bought my serger a year ago (from Sew Generously) and I do find it very easy to thread, I just need to do it more regularly so that I don’t have to get the manual out everytime.
I also had time to hem a pair of pants for my husband! I’m getting through my “to do” pile! And now I get a long weekend off~ Ok, I will probably be seen with knitting in my hands, now that the parades are over! Find something you find fun and enjoy your weekend too~~~~
