kids classes in the OPAD

October 30, 2008

We’ve been having a lot of fun this year in the Oak Park Arts District.  This past summer we started a kid’s summer art camp.  For two weeks in June and one week in August, kids had the opportunity to learn and explore their creative side at several different studio/galleries in the district.  Each morning the kids rotated between two different professional artist’s studios.  Participating studios were Studio Light, Prodigy Glassworks, Intuit Dance, Bead In Hand, Calypso Moon and here at Pamela Penney Textile Arts.  It went so well we are now offering classes on the days that District 97 has no school.  Last week on Thursday and Friday school was closed for conferences, so we offered a half-day camp.  And in a couple of weeks we have a camp on Veteran’s Day.  Last week I taught the kids to make hand-made paper on Thurday and on Friday we made these cool pop-up puppets.  Because it is close to Halloween we had a lot of scarey monster puppets!  It was a great project.   We are planning our schedule of kids classes for the winter holiday break as well as for January through March.  Please see our current children class and camp offerings HERE!
